Tech Talk That Lands: How to Make Executives Listen

Writer: Matt MoranMatt Moran

One of the biggest complaints I hear from executive leadership about technical presentations is:

"Too much detail. Too much jargon. I don’t need all the specifics—I need impact."

If you’re presenting technical information to leadership, start by asking yourself one crucial question:

“How does this contribute to lowering costs or generating revenue?”

Maybe you're fixing a bug that will speed up a process, ultimately saving time and resources.

Or you're requesting more time to develop a solution that could lower manufacturing costs.

Or perhaps you're implementing a security measure that mitigates financial risk.

Lead with that.

Executives don’t need to understand every technical detail—they need to know why it matters to the business. When you begin with the impact, you immediately capture their attention and frame the rest of your presentation in a way that’s relevant to them.

Once they see the value, they'll be far more engaged in the "how."

And remember—keep it high level. If they want more details, they’ll ask.

Trust me.
